We've had my parents visiting for the last three weeks, which always results in discovering amazing outdoor activities close to home. This month we experienced "hummingbird banding" at the San Pedro River. Trained specialists catch, measure, and observe migrating hummingbirds as they pass through Southern Arizona. It is really a site to see and the coolest part is when they are finished with the work they allow visitors to hold the birds and release them, kids too! This image is of The Boy, holding his little bird, who stayed in his hand for a whole 30 seconds or more. It was amazing! And my pets entry, obviously we don't keep hummingbirds as pets, but we have a feeder on our front porch and have no less than 3 birds at any given time and have had up to 12at once. That's about as close to a pet as we are going to get right now... Head over to I Heart Faces for more incredibly thoughtful entries through the link at the bottom of my post!

Ha! So that is how one gets a still picture of a hummingbird...pinch it in your fingers! :) I really had no idea someone was monitoring the hummingbird population. I think we have a sizable portion of it feeding off our porch feeder. As amazing as it is to see a still bird in your son's hand, it is MORE amazing to see him so still! What a great shot.
wow- that is such a neat thing to do. noone will ever believe he held a hummingbird- good thing you have pictures
Wow! Hummingbirds are so pretty!

So beautiful photos!
Great story. Great photos!
Oh wow, what a precious tiny thing! That is one way to teach a boy how to be gentle. :)
What a COOL shot! (shots really - I love them both!) :-) great entry!
The look on your little guys face....precious. Simply precious. My kids are all in their 20's now and we still talk about these kinds of times, these are the things they remember 20 years later. So for you to capture this moment is something that he will remind you of in later years I bet!
